About the project

This project is a state of the art rail operating centre designed utilising BIM software and constructed utilising Tier 4 data centre architecture with a dual redundant SCADA control system to provide a reliable power infrastructure system to the Network Rail and Crossrail signalling networks.

Understanding the challenges

The building is provided with a primary CCHP supply which provides both cooling and power to the building. A secondary supply is provided to the building in the form of a DNO supply and air cooled chiller. An emergency supply is provided in the form of a standby diesel generator with air cooled chiller. The ground floor is primarily used as the infrastructure and process area whilst the first and second floors are the heart of the rail operating centre. The project is the culmination of two and half years work from detailed design to completion on site with the building finally going live at 1 minute past midnight on the 23rd May 2015.
